Class: 4 - Lesson: 10 Text Document (Insert Picture, Typing Practice and Image Generation)

Purpose: To learn about OpenOffice text documents, to insert pictures and to improve typing practice.

No. of Classes

One or two classes (teacher's decision).

Material Required

OpenOffice, newspaper or textbook, pictures, browser.

Prior Knowledge

Students should know:

  • How to type text.
  • Font style (bold, italic, underline, font size, font name) and alignment (left, right, centred).
  • How to open the browser.

    Exercise 1



    1. Create a document from scratch that looks like the given model document. Students should retype the text and insert the picture from the image file. They should not copy any of it from the model document, which only shows the final result.

    Exercise 2



    1. Create new images using an image generation AI tool. Use tools such as Gemini and MagicStudio for image generation.

  • Teacher Instructions
    1. Show the different types of newspapers and textbooks, and explain to students that these are all prepared using this kind of text editor.
    2. Extract the material file to the desktop, so that the required image file is available to students on the desktop while doing the exercise.
    3. Even if it takes time, make the students type the text themselves.
    4. Use the terms "bold", "italic", "underline", "font colour", "font size" and "font type", etc. while teaching, so that students become familiar with them.
